“Lights, camera, action” is not something you hear everyday in Jennifer Anderson’s music class. However, for the fifth graders at W.D. Williams Elementary this was the theme for one big group project. Students in each classroom wrote a rap for the song “Love is in the Heir.” LEAF artist Virtuous came to the school to sing with the students and record a music video.
“The video is a part of the Chorus America grant so they are using the videos to help find more donors,” said music teacher Jennifer Anderson. “It is important for our kids to meet with local artists, because we have such a wealth of top notch musicians in the Asheville area.”
Being in a music video has been the highlight this school year for many of the students. Ms. Anderson is appreciative of the opportunities this has brought her students.
“This can be a life changing moment for our kids,” she said. “There might be the next big super star at my school, and I want all kids to get to try this out. I hope to help nurture lifelong music lovers and consumers of music.”
LEAF is a global arts organization here in the Asheville area that connects our community through music, arts education, preservation and experiences.
Chorus America is passionate about promoting singing in America.
The student version of the music video is still in the production phase. We will share the video once it has been released.
