Students cheering for the Asheville Tourists.

Cheers echoed through McCormick Stadium on May 17, as several Buncombe County Schools (BCS) students filled the stands to enjoy the Asheville Tourists’ Education Day.

The experience was a homerun for students from Charles T. Koontz Intermediate, Cane Creek Middle and Joe P. Eblen Intermediate. The Tourists hosted Greensboro in a competitive matchup. This was a moment to remember for every student as they cheered on the home team, sang songs, and experienced all the fun of this iconic spring sport.

“For many of our students this baseball game was the first baseball game ever attended,” said Eblen Intermediate Assistant Principal Margo Hale. “The students were so excited. Some of them wore Tourist jersey's while others brought their baseball gloves in hopes of catching a fly ball. It was magical watching the students sing the seventh inning stretch song ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.’”

To sweeten the experience, the Tourists won with a final score of 5-3.
