Our Instruments:
We use 4 bowed string instruments in the string orchestra; the violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
Here are some indepth videos that are great for describing the instruments we use.
The Violin
The violin is the most well known and smallest of the string orchestra family. Here is a great video demonstrating the violin.
The Viola
The viola looks very much like the violin, but is slightly larger and has a deeper, richer sound than the violin. Here is a great video demonstrating the viola.
The Cello
The cello is a much larger instrument than the violin or viola and has a very large range of sound, especialy in the lower register of sound. Here is a great video demonstrating the cello.

The double bass, also known as the string bass, upright bass, or contra bass, is the largest instrument in the strings family and has the lowest register of sound in the orchestra. Here is a great video demonstrating the double bass.
