Delph, LeAnna (6th Grade)

Meet Mrs. Delph

Welcome to my Classroom

LeAnna Delph
Joe P. Eblen Intermediate School

After growing up in southwest Virginia in a little town not unlike Leicester, I attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville and have stayed here ever since. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher ever since I can remember, but while at UNCA, I discovered the magic of middle school and my love of the humanities approach to teaching. In my classes I pay particular attention to the connections between people and ideas, so I integrate all the subject areas whenever I can. I believe strongly that it is my duty to prepare my students to become productive and responsible citizens of the world.  I teach reading and social studies in a fully integrated way, with writing as a separate focus. I also organize my lessons into "big ideas" so that students are better able to see how ideas connect. I have been Teacher of the Year, served on the School Leadership Team, and have my National Board Certification in Social Studies. I serve as my school's NCAE representative, the Buncombe County Association of Educators Treasurer, and Social Studies rep to our county Leadership Team. I also organize the sixth grade trip to Chattanooga, TN. I am currently working on my Master's in Media Literacy at Appalachian State University.  I teach with Mr. Frisch in sixth grade.  In my spare time, I love to swim, listen to music, play video games, read and watch movies, scrapbook, and travel.
